gray day

This gray, rainy Saturday holds nothing for me but:

: running on a treadmill
: shopping with a discount
: large amounts of hot drinks
: and organizing my closet and drawers.

And I couldn't be more thrilled.

Happy Saturday to you!

Sleepy Sundays

If you live in the Northeast, you know what I mean by a sleepy Sunday today.

These are the days that just make me want to curl up in sweat pants and a sweater with socks and my hair down and climb into bed with a good movie. Everything's quiet. The rain drizzles down steadily, not enough to hear on the roof but enough to make my hair frizz. It's dark but not too dark. The once-crunchy leaves are plastered to the ground outside, rather morbidly, really.

I want pumpkins.

TGIF

Yesterday, my day went like this:

: I shut my alarm off in my sleep, somehow, and woke up 45 minutes late for work.

: I was then late for work.

: I tripped over my own feet walking up the cement steps into the school and fell flat on my face. I got a bloody knee and a shoulder that still hurts. Oh, and I ripped my never-before-worn pants.

: My boss didn't show up until 1pm, so for 5 hours I sat by myself listening to Pandora and working on that damn book list, and not much else.

: I got severe blisters from wearing heels that I should have known better than to wear, and had to traipse around all day trying not to limp too visibly.

: I left feeling relieved, until I saw the $50 parking ticket on my windshield. Who knew Thursday was street cleaning/garbage day? Not me, because THERE WAS NO SIGN.

: I spent the next 20 minutes driving in circles around the city trying to find the highway, adamant that I didn't need my GPS because really, how hard is it to find an on-ramp? Apparently very.
: By the time I got to where I was meeting Steph and Abby for dinner (the one redeeming quality of the day), my feet were in such pain I actually stopped and bought shoes. I wish I was kidding.

That was my Thursday. Today is Friday. Please God, let it be better than yesterday. Weekend of comfy shoes and sleeping in, here I come.

a pretty picture

I find thoughts of rotten weather intriguing when, in reality, the weather is nothing but gorgeous. And when there's rain, I think only of sun. Somehow, that doesn't seem right.

Super Flax Bread

On this rainy Thursday, I took a few hours this morning and made some absolutely delicious flaxseed bread. Ground flaxseeds, soaked flaxseeds, raw flaxseeds--it's got them all. Loaded up and super dense, it made a great snack with butter and jam.

Rainy Afternoon

What are you up to this afternoon? Here in Connecticut it's absolutely gloomy--a perfect day for staying in bed and cuddling up with a book and some tea.

I spent some time this afternoon looking through old photographs with Mary on the living room carpet, in attempts to organize them.

I just love seeing old pictures from my childhood. I especially love when you come across a really old one and a really recent one right next to each other--it's so strange to see backyards changing and children growing and new people entering our lives, don't you think?

PS: The interview went extraordinarily well. I'll update tomorrow!
